Weekend in Sibiu

In August my cousin Dan and his wife Roxana invited us to spend a weekend with them in Sibiu, a city approximately 100 miles south of Cluj. Dan and Roxi have two kids, Andrei and Petra, who at the time were almost 11 and almost 4 and a half. We were excited to be able to spend some time with them and for Alexandra to meet her Romanian cousins, so on a Friday afternoon the three of us (we left Andrei home with my mom, because we were intending to actually relax!!), got on a bus and off we went. The trip wasn't exactly pleasant as it was really hot outside and the AC on the bus wasn't working very well. We were all dripping sweat and couldn't wait to make it to our destination.

Dan and Roxana treated us like royalty and Alex connected immediately with her cousins, which made me very happy. That Friday evening we just hung out, ate, and talked. On Saturday morning the guys took the kids and went to see the city's old citadel, where they took pictures and played a little soccer,

while Roxana and I went shopping (well, more like window shopping); no pictures of us. :-)
In the evening we all went to the center of the city (downtown) to hang out,


eat some traditional Romanian doughnuts ("gogoshi")

and admire the cool buildings and cute restaurants.


Alexandra loved to be pushed by Andrei on the little bike Petra had given her.

When we got home I took some random pictures of the girls because I loved to see how close they had become in such a short time. :-)



On Sunday morning we went to the village museum, an important spot to visit in Sibiu. I had been many times before, probably every time I visited my grandmother, and Ben and I went together 4 years ago, but it's always fun to go back. (My grandmother no longer lives in Sibiu, she is now living with my dad in Cluj, after having a stroke 2 yrs. ago; she turned 87 in July!).









We then headed home, where during lunch the girls entertained us with some funny faces.:-)


Our trip came to an end on Sunday afternoon and we were really bummed to have to return to Cluj so soon. It had been such a fun and relaxing time! Thanks Roxi and Dan!
