"The Nativity"

This year for her school Christmas play Alexandra was an angel. Not the main angel that delivers the good news to Mary, but one of the other "hosts" of angels. She was very excited to also have a few words to say; last year she was one of the shepherds and just did a dance and a song with the other shepherds, but didn't have an individual part - she was quite shy at the time, so I don't think she would have mustered the courage to say anything. It goes to show how much children grow and change from one year to another.

It was such a lovely performance and the costumes were great. We got Alexandra's at one of the supermarkets, all of them have tons of Nativity costumes around this time of year, as all schools put together some sort of Christmas production.

Here are a few pictures and videos.

I loved the angels' performance (obviously; my daughter was in it! :-))). Here are the words to the song:

"An angel appeared in the sky
Spreading her wings, spreading her wings.
An angel appeared in the sky
Spreading her wings.

She spoke in a beautiful voice,
Loudly and clear, loudly and clear.
She spoke in a beautiful voice,
Loudly and clear.

She told all the shepherds below
Jesus is born, Jesus is born.
She told all the shepherds below
Jesus is born."

In the video below is Alexandra's part; the audio is not great, but this is what she said: "They gave Him some wonderful gifts!" :)

We had such a great time watching the kids perform and sing their little hearts out! Along some of the familiar songs like "Twinkle, twinkle little star" and "Away in a manger", they sang some "different" ones, really sweet, like this one about the donkey:

"Plodding along to Bethlehem
Plodding all through the day.
Clip clop, don't stop
Carry Mary all the way." :-)
(There's more, but Alex couldn't remember the rest of the words).

The children also talked about how Mary and Joseph and the donkey were probably getting tired of their long journey. So they sang an encouraging song to the donkey. Awww!

"Little donkey, little donkey
On the dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onward
With your precious load!

Been a long time little donkey
Through the winter's night
Don't give up now little donkey
Bethlehem's in sight!"

How sweet is that? And the melody was just as nice! (I don't have a video of it, but we've ordered a DVD of the entire production, so it will be fun to watch that as a family every now and then).

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
